Mobile Augmented Reality: beyond the glorified tour guide and the dystopian future

This post is a position paper for the upcoming Mobile Augmented Reality Summit. Pheromone, as company developing Web services and applications, and online social networks in particular, will be joining this summit to observe the upcoming technological trends in Augmented Reality, and lay out its vision of MAR beyond the usual scenarios of the glorified tour guide and the dystopian overflow of information without any concern for privacy: a vision of MAR as a very personal tool for egocasting, serendipity and discovery.

Using Web Technologies for “native” mobile applications

Simon St.Laurent believes that the iPad is a great opportunity for Web developers. It seems somewhat counter-intuitive. Shouldn’t Web developers be cheering for platforms such as Palm’s WebOS or Symbian, both holding great promises for Web technologies and basing their applications on HTML, CSS and Javascript?

Why cheer upon seeing the iPhone sales skyrocket in the last quarter, or the latest Android device releases boosting that platform, too? After all, both Apple and Google push their…

  4. le serveur

UXMTL Night Quote: “I am not the core user”

Last night a room full of Web practitioners, nerds, creatives or business people (and sometimes – all of the above) gathered for a discussion night organised by the UXMTL collective. The group of User Experience professionals rounded up a great panel to talk about the perception of UX from the technology, investment, managerial and creative standpoints.

The night was full of insight and fascinating discussions, and I went home fired up by…

The Death of the Mobile Website?

Technological advances in mobile platforms are making the need for a “mobile website” rapidly obsolete. Why build a miniaturized, feature-stripped site when your mobile browser lets you use the fill site with no experience barrier. And if the the mobile site dies, what will it be replaced with?
